Hi, Friend, I’m J.P.!

Let’s get to know each other.

I am based in Flagstaff Arizona but you’ll find me roaming around anywhere in the southwest. My parents took my siblings and I on a road trip from Dallas, Texas to Yosemite national park in California. That was my very first national park ever at the impressionable age of 12 years old. On the drive back home we passed through the Grand Canyon (my second national park) and by default flagstaff, Arizona. It feels kinda like poetry to find myself back here 17 years later!

In 2013 I watched the secret life of Walter Mitty and 2 years later I was working in a call center cubicle with no windows when I was daydreaming (just like the main character, Walter, in that movie) about the life and adventures I wish I had instead. I wanted to be out on the road! I wanted to be summiting mountains and rappelling into canyons! But how? I scoured the internet for career paths that would give me that sort of freedom. That’s when it clicked and when I decided I wanted to be a landscape photographer! One problem; I lived in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. I was living in the suburbs of a major city surrounded by cornfields and cow pastures. Nowhere near the landscapes I dreamt of photographing. I dedicated a few weeks each year to planning cross country road trips with my dog to go put my knowledge and skills to the test. I have put hours upon hours doing research on different locations. Learning as much as I could so that I could best prepare for my one chance to experience and photograph these places. This has come in really handy because I have learned what works and what doesn’t from a tourists perspective and now as a local. I help my couples plan with the same mentality of someone unfamiliar with this realm as well as a seasoned local who’s lived here their whole life.

After photographing big venue weddings around north Texas I realized that I didn’t feel truly fulfilled. If I could somehow combine my love for the outdoors and photographing couples celebrating their big day. That’s when I discovered adventure elopement photography! When my wife and I moved out to Arizona and bought our home in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff I knew all the stars had aligned perfectly for me to embark on this dream career path! I am so honored that I get to work with the most incredible couples.

what do we have in common?!

  • OUTSIDE! … I find incredible joy in being outside! I grew up going on camping and fishing trips with my dad and uncles. I couldn’t sit still long enough to wait for any fish to bite, but you could find me discovering nearby trails and catching bugs. Those experiences cultivated and nurtured a deep sense of wonder and love for the outdoors. Now as an adult myself I love spending time outdoors in any activities from hiking, camping and fishing which are true to my roots, and now you can find me trying new activities such as rock climbing, snowboarding, and packrafting. I wouldn't be here if it weren’t for those family camping trips!

  • I’ve slept in the back of my car for fun! Around my dogs birthday every September I like to set out on a cross-country road trip that usually lasts a few weeks. I live and sleep out of my subaru outback to save on travel expenses.

  • that I just recently moved to AZ! I grew up in Dallas, TX… so I didn't have the privilege to call the great outdoors my backyard until I moved to Flagstaff. This has actually been an advantage, however. Have you ever met people who grew up close to Disneyland but never went? In the same way, I love to play tourist in my own state now! It’s helped me find some incredible places to introduce my clients to!

  • Believe it or not, I am not a fan of big group settings!

My social meter gets drained when I’m in larger groups and I find that I truly thrive off of smaller, intimate and 1-on-1 experiences. This is why I love the elopement dynamic so much!
